Week 9

I have completed all of the weeks and have found 2.0 to be interesting and at times frustrating.

I have learnt a bit more about the different names of 2.0 and what they mean and what they are used for. Most of them I wouldn't use but at least I know a little bit more of what people are talking about when I hear names like flickir, tumbler, picnic etc.

Yahoo......................................................the end.

Week 9 E books

I quite enjoyed this part of 2.0, surprise, surprise!!

Net library is ideal for study guides and computer books etc.

I looked up language titles in downloadable media.

I especially liked tumber even though it has childrens books because it is perfect for me to look up childrens french books and read them at the same time as the words are pronounced. You have to start off easy don't you; ha ha.

Week 9 Podcasts

http://londonwalks.libsyn.com/rss

I found podcasts extremely confusing. I tried the other two sites but couldn't get
into them and this site was the only one I could get into. I looked at the top 10 sites and found them to be boring. As travel is my major interest and my husband and I are going to London soon this london walks appealed to me and my husband can download it onto his MP3 player.

Week 9 U-tube

I go into u-tube quite a lot at home because everything and anything is posted on it and it is crazy and fun to look at.

I have chosen a drift video to put on my blog because my son is the person driving in
the white car.

Week 8

Google docs etc. is pretty good because you can access your documents or spreadsheets
etc. from anywhere in the world. It means you don't have to take your personal computer with you.

I looked at the favourites and the short-list and I first went into the travel site but the website was an american one so it wasn't of any use to me. Then I decided to go into goggle maps which I really like because I can be nosey and look at friends houses overseas. Ha ha!!

Week 7 wikis

Forgot to add my blog to the PB wiki so I've done it now.

Week 7 Wikis

It was interesting reading about wikis; in particular the library success one. It gives a lot of tips on readers advisory and lots of related areas to the library i.e. displaying books.

SJCPL subject guide appealed to me to as it was set out with simple headings so it was quick and easy to go straight to what you were interested in.

Booklovers wiki would work well in conjunction with the library and would help with doing book reviews for a book club.

Week 6 Library 2.0

I have found reading about 2.0 very draining and depressing.

I think people searching for particular or hard to find subjects the internet will be the only way to go but I also think that reading a hard book will never completely die away. The next generations coming through will easily adapt to all the latest gadgets etc. that the computer will provide and will probably, if never read a hard cover book. Everything that they will require will be at their fingertips on the computer. The computer will be their world, for knowledge and also their social and emotional life.

Librarians that are coming up in the ranks will be much younger and fully immersed in the internet jargon and technology so they won't require a lot of training.

Week 6 Technorati

I made an account and it was pretty easy to follow and then I claimed my blog. And then I tried to search web 2.0 but couldn't find anything relevant.

I found this site absolutely useless. Most of the time I couldn't find anything related to what I was looking for. e.g. looking up dogs - the search came up with vege dogs!!!

I went to the popular blogs and it said it was unavailable.

Week 6 delicious

Delicious could be useful when I am travelling overseas because I won't have to write the names of websites I require if I am on a different computer. It is an easy way for some people to use from anywhere in the world but personally I won't be using it because I am old-fashioned!! Ha ha.

Week 5 Rollyo

I went to this website but it is undergoing maintenance right now. I will try again later.

Week 5 Library thing

Library thing could be a very useful tool to use especially if you have a tendency to forget the books you have read. It is simple to use and quick to set up. Personally I would stick to "my reading log" which is provided by the Auckland City Libraries.

Week 4 - twitter

http://twitter.com/Iloathecomputer
I think twitter could be pretty interesting but as with most computer thingys you are spending quite a large amount of your time on the computer. But it is certainly a fun way to find out what is going on with your friends, movie stars etc. day to day. I wouldn't use it though as its just another excuse to spend more time on the computer and that is just drugery! ha ha!!

Week4 RSS feeds

I already had a G mail account so it was easy making a google reader account.

I subscribed to the Auckland City Libraries for new DVDs and new biographies. The subscriptions sent to me are quite differently set out and I found it confusing. I probably wouldn't use it myself as I don't spend a lot of time at home browsing my emails.

Week 3 online image generators

It was fairly easy to follow and is good to use to send to a friend instead of a card. Personally I would never get to use this at work only at home.

Week 3: Picnik

I could not enter picnik because our flash player was not updated. I couldn't complete task 3.

I tried to go to splashup but a message comes up saying you must have flashplayer 10.

I went to pixenate and upload a photo of a beautiful beach. I played around with some of the functions such as cropping and resizing. I also added text onto the picture and rounded the corners of the photo. I found this exercise quite fun and I guess it would be useful for library use when they do their photos for events such as Diwali.

Week 3 Trading cards

I enjoyed making the card but it is of no use to me.

Week 3 flickr mashups

I liked flickr montager the best because it was fun making mosaics out of pictures and I could choose any image that I liked. I searched pictures of chihuahuas in the search box as they are one of my favourite dogs. The flickr colour pickr and mappr didn't hold any interest for me and I wouldn't ever use them.

TASK 5

With the help of two workmates (yes 2!!) I uploaded a image of my favourite dog and I put a
short caption underneath. What do I think of it? Well it is definitely a useful tool to know how
to do but I doubt whether I would ever use it again because I have already forgotton how I got
it on the page in the first place. Ha ha!!

Week 3

SMALL CUTE DOG WITH LARGE UGLY WIG

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Week 1 setting up my blog

As I am finding this whole blog thing pretty confusing I am not getting very far. I like googling
things to find out facts etc. and I like emailing but for some obscure reason I have a real blockage
in doing this bloggy thing but for the wonderful patience of a work colleague of mine I am slowly getting there. Three cheers for my computer savvy friend!!

Week 2 Social Networking

I have looked at bebo, facebook and other similar things and have found them to be of no interest to me personally. I think it is a good social way for younger people to intereact with each other but for me I much prefer to just email someone one on one or ring them (yes I know
a bit old-fashioned, ha ha!!)
